Dr. Sachs discusses New Orleans

Please listen to this excellent interview on WBUR with our departing chief of OB/Gyn who is heading off to New Orleans. Doctors and nurses in particular might want to listen to his offer.

Thanks for the link. New Orleans needs some good news right about now. I am very impresssed with Dr. Sachs. I hope he realizes how much we appreciate his motivations.

As glad as I am that New Orleans is gaining someone that is seen in the industry as a competent and good leader. That quote makes me frown. I haven't listened to it yet, but I assume its a draw for nurses and doctors to come to the area to support the need. (If there is a transcript, please point me to it)

The surrounding area hospitals are suffering too because New Orleans is drawing away all our staff with higher wages.

The complete impact beyond New Orleans is hard for the rest of the country to understand. My Parish (That's a county to everyone else) has seen 10 years of growth over night. Taking that into account we are suffering badly just on traffic.

We are under a year long initiative to study market wages and appropriately adjust. Adding almost 100 beds in the next 4 years, of which construction has already begun. The growth is amazing, but scary when you ask where are we going to get the staff.
